Addressing a Condensation Issue in Keith
We were approached by a local contractor to help with the issue of condensation in this distillery pump house. Discharge of hot water was causing condensation to form on the steel roof and beams, dripping onto live switchgear…the answer was to spray 100mm of Icynene Spray Foam to the roof and purlins. LDC-70 was used in this application as it gives a marginally better u-Value overall, and it is certified for use with DC315 fireproof coating. The foam was sprayed to the required depth with our Graco E30i dual-proportioner reactor, then the fireproof coating was applied with an airless sprayer.

An original New Build in Fetterangus, Aberdeenshire
Icynene Insulation was sprayed to the curved roof components between the rafters with a flash covering over the faces to reduce cold-bridging, and trimmed to a brander to allow for fixing of plasterboard.
Insulation was sprayed to any exposed steelwork and steel beams and box sections were injected.
The roof resembles the upturned hull of a boat…a striking design feature that would have been a challenge to insulate and make airtight using traditional forms of insulation alone.
A High Performance New Build in Inverness
This new build in Inverness was insulated with 200mm Spray Foam Insulation to the walls and 250mm to the roof; the final airtest result was 1.1 ACH (Air Changes per Hour) which surpassed requirements ensuring that the MVHR system worked at its optimum efficiency. For reference, the building control requirement is 5 ACH, and Passive House Standard is 0.6 ACH. When forming a thermal envelope with Spray Foam, these high levels of airtightness are easily achieved and consideration must be given to ventilation requirements. We consulted with MVHR specialists Airtightbuild.com to ensure the design worked and the building performs at its best.

An industrial application in Aberdeenshire
The main issue was condensation forming and dripping from the purlins…Closed-cell Insulation was sprayed to the fibre sheet roof components and a cross both faces of the steel purlins to reduce cold-bridging and eliminate the condensation…also helping to reduce heat loss in the large, multi-functional space.
A commercial Warehouse in Banff
This steel framed and profile clad warehouse was insulated with LDC-70 Icynene Spray Foam Insulation to increase thermal performance and eliminate condensation. As is often the case with this type of construction, there was a problem with condensation forming and dripping off the purlins causing damage to stored items and equipment. The rooflights were framed out and retained to allow for natural light. The application was subsequently treated with DC315 fireproof coating to achieve a Fire Rating of 0.

Why Choose Spray Foam?
Spray Foam Insulation is a system that delivers up to 50% greater energy savings when compared to other home insulation products. Our choice of open-cell foam has achieved BBA and KIWA certification, and our closed-cell product provides a Class 1 Fire Rating. It’s an investment that you will rarely see but you will feel the benefits daily. Why not choose the peace of mind that comes with a healthier, quieter, more energy efficient indoor environment?
Did you know that up to 40% of your home’s air, whether heated or cooled, can be lost via air leakage? Your heating system or air conditioner can end up working harder to make up for the air that is escaping your home, which can drive up your monthly heating and cooling bills. Icynene spray foam insulation can help by eliminating air leakage as well as addressing conductive heat loss.
Reduce noise – Icynene open-cell spray foam can help reduce sound from noisy indoor rooms such as media rooms and laundry rooms, outdoor noises such as traffic and playgrounds, and transferred noise such as flushing toilets.
Buildings insulated with Icynene can achieve extremely high levels of airtightness without the need for air barriers, tapes or sealants – saving time and money. Spray foam helps achieve building compliance assuring clients and contractors peace of mind, and a lifetime of high performance.
Application of closed-cell foam to steel and fibre roofs can help save energy and prevents condensation problems which can be damaging and costly for your business…
Minimising the flow of random airborne moisture entering your home helps protect against mould growth that can lead to conditions such as asthma and allergies which can cause symptoms such as itchy eyes, sneezing, and coughing. Most of the moisture that enters the walls of your home is carried in the air.
Architects have to be aware of the limits housing materials impose; laying sheets of fiberglass and rolls of foil or rigid board insulation can determine the shapes and angles a floor plan can use. Icynene spray foam, on the other hand, moulds itself to all kinds of shapes allowing for alternative and unique design layouts.
